Elementary Music
It has been a busy year in the elementary music room! We began 2022-23 with the return of the Central Lee Youth Choir and Ukulele Club. Both activities are offered to 4th-6th grade students and meet once per week. The Youth Choir is currently preparing the musical, “Pirates,” for a performance in April, and the Ukulele Club will perform for our younger students in April.
Kindergarten-3rd grade students spent several weeks preparing for their holiday concerts and delivered entertaining performances in December! We celebrated their success by watching videos of the concerts and holding a popcorn party. Students will spend the remainder of the year learning about steady beats and rhythms by playing a variety of instruments (including xylophones, boomwhackers, and non-pitched instruments), movement activities, and body percussion. 3rd grade students will finish the year by learning songs to sing at their Pioneer Days field trip in the spring. Songs include “Yankee Doodle,” “Old Dan Tucker,” “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” and “Oh! Susanna.”
4th grade students spent the first half of the year learning to play the recorder! This group has proven to be quite talented, and we are excited to see the skills they will bring to our band program next year as 5th graders. Students are currently preparing for their Biography Day performance in May.
5th and 6th grade classes are currently preparing for their genre-themed concert in May! Students will perform music from John Denver, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Journey, The Jackson 5, and more. The students are enjoying learning the songs and are sure to deliver a great performance.
