More than 100 male students from Central Lee Elementary School and their mothers participated in the inaugural Mother-Son Tail’date event on April 21.
The event, sponsored by the Central Lee Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), was inspired by Central Lee’s Daddy-Daughter Dance, held each year in February. The Mother-Son Tail’date was a collaboration between PTO President Liz Longanecker and CLES Principal Heather Fuger.
Event participants engaged in a variety of family-friendly competitive activities, including an outdoor yard game, bags/cornhole, a free-throw contest, a punt-pass-kick competition, playground kickball, hula-hooping, a photo booth and concession stand, and mothers-versus-sons dodgeball games.
“I loved it because you got to pick what you wanted to do and you got to battle your moms in the dodgeball game,” said 5th grade student Mason Longanecker. “It was a fun event to do at the end of my elementary school time."
Brock Westfall, a Central Lee School Board member and elementary parent, refereed the intense dodgeball games, which were all won by the sons.
“The Mother-Son Tail’date was an excellent idea from our PTO and a great opportunity for moms and sons to socialize and enjoy some competitive fun,” said Superintendent Dr. Andy Crozier. “We appreciate the support our PTO provides our elementary. I hope more parents in the elementary become involved in our future PTO events.”
The PTO’s upcoming campaigns include revitalizing the outdoor education forest area of the school. CLES parents are encouraged to attend monthly PTO meetings and get involved in its efforts to provide engaging opportunities for students and staff.
