Hello! My name is Beth Wells, and I am the Preschool-8th grade school counselor at Central Lee. This is my ninth year in this role, and I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone what my job entails and how I can best support you and your student(s). While my responsibilities can vary from day to day, below are the core duties I perform regularly:
Emotional & Social Support
I provide individual and, occasionally, group counseling to help students navigate their social and emotional development.
Family Collaboration
I encourage open communication and am available to speak with parents about any concerns or questions regarding their child’s progress or well-being.
Skills for Learning Lessons
I teach K-5 students lessons on topics ranging from conflict resolution to career exploration, about once a month.
These are the main components of my role, but I am also very involved in our Leader in Me initiatives in both Central Lee buildings. We’ve had a busy start to the year!
One of the “big rocks” that we’ve started the school year with is the selection of the Middle School Student SOAR Team (grades 5-8). Students who were interested completed an application and recorded themselves answering three questions for the Staff SOAR Team to review. It was a tough decision, as all of the applicants demonstrated excellent leadership skills. In the end, four students per grade level were selected. We’ve already held several meetings to plan Homecoming events and the 7th and 8th grades’ first Fun Night of the year.
Additionally, we have a variety of leadership roles available in both the elementary and middle school buildings. Students apply for these roles, and a selection process determines who is chosen. These roles not only assist the staff, but they also give students a sense of pride and ownership. It’s truly a win-win!
Some of these leadership roles include lunch table washers, recyclers, bus pass distributors, assistants and caretakers for Atari, janitor assistants, library helpers, and more. Be sure to ask your student if they've had the opportunity to take on a leadership role this year or in the past.
I’m excited to see how our Leader in Me journey progresses throughout the year!
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. You can contact me through Class Dojo (Preschool-4th), email, or phone.
