Elementary Music
It's been a busy and exciting year in the elementary music room! We kicked off the 2024-25 school year with the return of the Central Lee Youth Choir and Ukulele Club. These programs, available to fourth through sixth-grade students, meet once a week and have been a wonderful addition to our music offerings. Both groups shared their talents in a holiday performance at St. Barnabas Chapel in Montrose, Iowa.
Our kindergarten through third-grade students dedicated several weeks to preparing for their holiday concerts. For the rest of the year, they’ll explore steady beats, rhythms, and various instruments like xylophones, boomwhackers, and non-pitched instruments. We’ll also dive into movement activities and body percussion. Third-grade students will wrap up the year by learning songs for their Pioneer Days field trip in the spring, including classics like “Yankee Doodle,” “Old Dan Tucker,” “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” and “Oh! Susanna.”
Fourth-grade students spent the first half of the year mastering the recorder, and we’re thrilled by how talented this group has proven to be! We’re excited to see how their newfound skills will enhance our band program next year as they transition into fifth grade. Right now, they are preparing for their Biography Day performance in May.
The fifth- and sixth-grade classes are busy getting ready for their spring performance, Making the Band. With music from The Beatles, Elton John, The Go-Go’s, and Bon Jovi, it’s sure to be an entertaining show!
