The Building Trades classes are off and running this school year! We have already started several big projects, with some near completion, and look forward to more throughout the school year.
Carpentry 1 is our entry level class, preparing students for advancement through the program. So far, students have worked on trade-level math and safety and are preparing to start their first project in the shop: constructing a set of sawhorses. The Carpentry 2 class is nearly finished with its residential wiring course and has been helping out with other projects. Students started the year learning basic wall framing and constructed a set of walls used for other classes.
Carpentry 3 began the year by finishing the Ag Shop remodel and have started their big project of the year — building two 10’x12’ additions on both the North and South side of the football press box. Just last week, these students set the foundations for the additions and are excited to continue building. This hands-on project will advance students’ skills in preparation for their senior year. The Carpentry 4 class, made up only of seniors, started off the year by working on several buildings for the maintenance department. Their nearly-completed projects include a 24’x32’ addition to an existing structure with a 16’x28’ lean onto it, as well as a 20’x20’ stand-alone building. Upon completion of these projects, students will begin several off-campus projects. Finally, the Walls and Ceilings class has finished their drywall installation and are completing the finishing touches on their projects.
Here’s to another successful year of learning and preparing the future tradesmen of our industry!
