We are thrilled to announce that Jerry Junkins, a Montrose High School graduate from 1955, has been posthumously inducted into the 2023 Academic Hall of Fame.
A salutatorian of his high school class, Jerry married the class valedictorian, Sally Schevers. He graduated from Iowa State University’s electrical engineering program in 1959, where he was a member and chapter president of the Theta Xi fraternity. Upon graduation, he moved to Dallas and joined Texas Instruments while earning his master’s degree in engineering administration.
Jerry worked his way up to president, chairman, and CEO at TI; under his leadership, TI's sales doubled from $6 billion to $13 billion, and the company’s defense business earned the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Additionally, Jerry was a staunch advocate for education reform and helped create Head Start programs in Texas schools.
Throughout his career, Jerry was recognized by various institutions for his outstanding contributions to education. The Jerry R. Junkins Elementary School in Dallas, Texas, was named in his honor, and ISU created the endowed Jerry R. Junkins Chair position in 1996, which honors an excellent engineering professor annually.
We are honored to recognize Jerry Junkins and his outstanding contributions. He continues to inspire us all!

We are delighted to announce Judith Burgin's induction into the 2023 Academic Hall of Fame!
Judith dedicated 38 years to Central Lee, inspiring students in both English and Spanish. Her roles extended beyond the classroom, as she advised the Spanish Club, directed the senior class play for several years, and served as a volunteer liaison for foreign exchange students. Judith studied abroad often in order to incorporate real-world experience in the classroom, encouraging her students to stretch their horizons beyond southeast Iowa.
Throughout her tenure, Judith provided her students with unique opportunities, from attending Spanish plays to achieving success in the Iowa AATSP contests held at Central College in Pella. She also organized trips to Chicago's museums and multiple trips to Mexico. Her students also gave back, tutoring younger students in Spanish and volunteering in the Salvation Army's Christmas Bucket Drive.
We are thrilled to honor Judith Burgin and her many accomplishments and service to the Central Lee community.
