4 members of the Central Lee Ag-Ed/FFA participated in a swine judging event held recently in Des Moines, Iowa. (L-R) Riley Stuecker, Brody Moeller, Ward Fraise, Owen Swan. The event was part of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Students critically evaluated swine classes and placed the animals based on their knowledge of industry standards. The team placed 15th out of 162 teams at the event. We congratulate them on their high scores. Through Agricultural Education students are able to gain valuable knowledge in the classroom and apply that knowledge to hands-on activities as well as gain leadership skills and awards through the FFA. #CTEworksforCL

Students in Ag-Ed I were excited to present an animal science topic to their classmates. The presentations bring the classroom to life with hands-on learning. Front(L-R) Jayden Mueller, Taylor Jones, and Audrey Sturdivant. The topic was management and care of Mini Aussie Doodles. The puppies are part of Jayden Mueller's Supervised Agricultural Experience project. The Supervised Agricultural Experience projects are an extension of the Agricultural Education program at Central Lee Community Schools. Experiential and work-based learning in school based agricultural education allows local programs to extend beyond the classroom and into the community in order to develop an individual student’s industry and career-based competencies. The methodology for delivering such high quality experiential learning is the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). The SAE is a required component of a total Agricultural Education program and intended for every student. Through their involvement in the SAE program students are able to consider multiple careers and occupations, learn expected workplace behavior, and develop specific skills within an industry, and are provided opportunities to apply academic and occupational skills in the workplace or a simulated workplace environment. Through these strategies, students learn how to apply what they are learning in the classroom as they prepare to transition into the world of college and career opportunities. Congratulations to our 7th grade FIRST LEGO League team! The results are in, and while we didn’t place as high as we were hoping, we did improve our scores from the Regional Competition in December. They worked hard on coding and completing missions on the table. They also learned a lot about using food waste to create biofuel. Ask a team member what they learned!

Hawk's Place had a busy end of the week! The kids made cards and presented hero masks and "gold trophies" to our Hawk's Place unsung heroes; our janitors, Jeff, Tracy, and Neal, who clean up the areas we use daily, our last minute bus driver, Jeremy, and Brian for popping popcorn every Friday to go with our movie. Friday we enjoyed a field trip to a movie and pizza and a little RAK thrown in between putting quarters in the carts at Aldis.

While one group of our oldest Hawk's Place students enjoyed the Test Kitchen today, the other group did a service project at the Kensington, serving the residents' meal. They introduced themselves to the residents at their assigned table and visited with many. They set the tables, took their orders, delivered their meal and cleared the table when they were finished. It was great to see how these students conducted themselves. One resident mentioned during her conversation with her Hawk's place server, she learned this student played the piano. She asked if the student would play for them. Fifth grader, McKenna graciously agreed. So the residents got a bonus - entertaining residents with music with their meal. #Proud2bCL
